Coconut Grove

Homes & Condos

Miami’s oldest neighborhood, Coconut Grove—or just “the Grove”—has everything you need to stay healthy and happy. Home to some of the nation’s best schools, Coconut Grove is an ideal choice for families. Turquoise waters of Biscayne Bay border the neighborhood, making it a boater’s paradise. With lush parks and canopy streets, the neighborhood invites residents to take advantage of the abundant South Florida sunshine. Artists often chase beauty, and Coconut Grove has attracted many free-spirited creative types, imbuing the neighborhood with a laidback, bohemian vibe. If you like to wear shorts and flip-flops but still have access to top amenities, Coconut Grove is the place for you.

Because the whole world can be found in South Florida, Coconut Grove offers every resident their own take on what a home looks like. Single-family homes come with generous outdoor space and plenty of room for a pool. Architectural styles in the neighborhood range from bungalows to Spanish to modern contemporary. For high-end condo living, a brand new set of luxury high rises offer world-class amenities. For a little more space and privacy, newly-constructed townhomes are located within strolling distance to some of the neighborhood’s best shopping and dining.

Coconut Grove

A Day in the Life

Residents of the Grove enjoy water, foliage, sunshine, and healthy living. There’s no better cure for a long week than the wind in your hair on a boat ride across Biscayne Bay, or perhaps some fishing and sailing. On land, plenty of parks provide playgrounds and sand volleyball courts. In Peacock Park, parents can enjoy a sophisticated brunch at Glass & Vine, a delicious locally-sourced restaurant, while kids can run free and play. There’s also the long-time local favorite, Green Street Cafe, where the food is as good as the people watching. Even shopping is open air, as the revamping of CoCoWalk shopping center promises new restaurants, salons, and boutiques. If you’re seeking inner nourishment, the Grove can provide that, too. The Coconut Grove Arts Festival and many local galleries and bookshops will open your mind and feed your soul.

Coconut Grove

History

Long a province of the Tequesta Native American tribe, Coconut Grove’s modern history began in the 1870s. Lured by the Homestead Act and the bubbling fresh water springs at the waterfront, the first settlers in the region were a mixture of Northeastern Americans, Europeans, and Bahamians. In 1882, an English couple, Isabella and Charles Peacock, opened the Bay View Inn, which became the first hotel in South Florida. After the railroad came to Miami in 1896, wealthy northerners began constructing sprawling waterfront estates and snowbird retreats. Industrial magnate James Deering built his winter palace, modeled after an old Italian country villa, in the area. Completed in 1922, today the estate is known as the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and is open to visitors.

The lush vegetation, twisting banyan trees, and turquoise waters of Biscayne Bay have always attracted people in love with beauty, including artists, sculptors, painters, poets, and writers. Today, though condominiums have sprouted up from the roots of Millionaire’s Row, Coconut Grove maintains a diverse, laidback, and bohemian vibe. Residents live and let live, and they live very well.
