Brickell

Urban Paradise

Home to Miami’s Financial District, the vibrant neighborhood of Brickell has become the beating heart of Downtown Miami, filled with luxurious high-rise condos, premier shopping centers, and some of South Florida’s best nightlife. Residents rave about the neighborhood’s walkability, with many top restaurants and bars only a few minutes away from home by foot. Central to everything in Miami, Brickell is a short car ride away from South Beach, Wynwood, and Coral Gables. Whether you’re gazing out your kitchen window or running across the Rickenbacker Causeway, water views of Biscayne Bay are everywhere you look.

Brickell is Miami’s premier spot for urban living, earning it the nickname “the Manhattan of Miami.” Available real estate consists primarily of high-rise condos offering residents world-class amenities and ocean views. Pools and gyms are considered “basic” condo amenities in Brickell, while more luxury units may have gated security and valet parking, making city living safe, convenient and classy. Today, Brickell continues to grow. Builds like Brickell City Centre, SLS Lux and Flat Iron are just a few of the newer buildings filling the neighborhood's skyline.

Brickell

History

Brickell gets its name from William and Mary Brickell, settlers who arrived in the area from Ohio in 1871. They purchased over 2,500 acres of land and set up a trading post, close to what’s now the corner of 5th Street and Brickell Avenue. After the railroad made its way to South Florida in 1896, Mary Brickell started developing the land, selling large plots to wealthy Northerners sick of long winters. Sprawling mansions lined Biscayne Bay and Brickell Avenue, which became known as Millionaire’s Row. As the population boomed in the 1960s and 1970s, and as Miami gained recognition as an international financial hub, Brickell’s historic estates began to give way to high-density commercial and residential buildings. Today, Brickell is known for its iconic high-rise condos, office buildings, premiere shopping centers, and top restaurants, and it maintains its vibrant, entrepreneurial, and luxurious spirit.

Brickell

A Day in the Life

Residents of Brickell love being able to walk everywhere. Many young professionals who work in the Financial District enjoy commuting to the office on foot, taking in the sea breeze. Residents also zoom around the neighborhood on bikes and Freebees, which are electric, open-air vehicles that look like golf carts. They provide free rides throughout the neighborhood. With its own stop on the Miami Metrorail and a loop on the Metromover, Brickell is one of the few neighborhoods in Miami where it’s possible to live car-free.

If you’re looking to get your shopping fix, the brand-new complex at Brickell City Centre offers a five-story mall anchored by an enormous Saks Fifth Avenue. There’s also a Whole Foods, chic dining, art galleries, and plenty of boutique shops. For more options, you can also stroll to Mary Brickell Village to eat, drink, shop, and play. For local restaurants, favorites include tapas at Bazaar Mar and fresh seafood at River Oyster Bar. Known for its nightlife, Brickell can keep you drinking and dancing well into the wee hours of the morning.

As many Brickell residents value a good workout, fitness centers like Equinox—with separate studios for Pilates, yoga, boxing, barre, and cycling—provide everything you need to stay healthy, energetic, and beach-ready. If outdoor workouts are more appealing, you’ll find yourself in good company running or biking across the Rickenbacker Causeway or swimming laps in your condo pool.
